Tom Zani, Senior Attorney/Clinical Director

 

Please join the Family and Youth Law Center in welcoming its new Senior Attorney/Clinical Director, Tom Zani. 

Prior to arriving at FYLaw, Thomas (Tom) Zani served the poverty population of Southeastern Ohio at Southeastern Ohio Legal Services in Steubenville and worked in five counties (Belmont, Carroll, Harrison, Jefferson and Monroe). He has experience in a variety of civil legal areas of law which affect low income individuals. Landlord Tenant Law and Land Installment Contract Law, Consumer Law, Estate Planning and End of Life initiatives, Family Law, Public Benefits and Utility issues for consumers, are all areas he worked in regularly. He worked with Housing Teams and Task Forces, provided community outreach and education on a variety of legal topics including Fair Housing Awareness and helped administer a pro se legal clinic. Tom received his JD from Capital University Law School in 1999 after obtaining his BA from Wheeling Jesuit University (then College) in 1996. He is licensed to practice in Ohio and in the Southern District of Ohio Federal Court. Tom Also served on the Belmont, Harrison Monroe Mental Health and Recovery Board for over ten years.

Tom grew up in Bridgeport, Belmont County, Ohio.  He is married and has a 3 year old daughter.  Tom and his family wished to relocate to the Columbus Area because of this unique job opportunity and to increase exposure to diversity and activities for his family. When he is not busy with work or family, he enjoys golf and fishing. Tom is dedicated to serving people who would otherwise have little voice. He also is interested in exposing students to practical legal strategies, how to handle the stress of practice and working to find alternatives to settling disputes.
